Milan, 27 May (LaPresse) – Iranian state television reports that Tehran has obtained a draft of an initial, unofficial framework for a memorandum of understanding with the United States to end the war. The agreement provides for the withdrawal of US forces from the vicinity of Iran, whilst Iran would allow commercial transit through the Strait of Hormuz to return to pre-war levels within 30 days. However, according to reports in the Iranian media, US military vessels would not be included in the preliminary agreement for Hormuz, where shipping traffic would be managed by Iran in coordination with Oman. It is also emphasised that the framework is not yet final and that Iran will not proceed without ‘tangible verification’. “The United States has committed to withdrawing its military forces from the area surrounding Iran; it remains to be defined, through negotiations, whether this includes forces deployed in the region or those stationed at bases,” the draft states. “If a final agreement is reached within 60 days, that agreement will be approved in the form of a binding United Nations Security Council resolution,” Iranian television adds.
