Vatican City (Vatican), 23 Apr. (LaPresse) – A “comfortable and miserly heart”, the “sick pursuit of superficial pleasures” and an “isolated conscience” lead to “individualistic sadness”. So said Pope Leo XIV, quoting Pope Francis’ apostolic exhortation ‘Evangelii gaudium’, during his homily at Mass in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. “When the inner life closes in on its own interests, there is no longer any room for others; the poor can no longer enter; the voice of God is no longer heard; and the sweet joy of his love is no longer enjoyed. In the face of such closed-mindedness, it is precisely the love of the Lord that sustains our commitment, above all in the service of justice and solidarity,” the Pope added.
