Washington (United States), 23 April (LaPresse/AP) – President Donald Trump’s acting Attorney General, Todd Blanche, has signed an order reclassifying state-authorised medical marijuana as a less dangerous substance. This is a policy change long sought by supporters of the substance, who argue that cannabis should not have been equated with heroin by the federal government. The order does not legalise marijuana for medical or recreational use, but subjects it to less stringent regulation. It also grants authorised operators in the medical cannabis sector a significant tax break and eases certain barriers to cannabis research. The Trump administration has also stated its intention to begin the process of reclassifying marijuana more broadly, scheduling a hearing for the end of June.
