Rome, 4 May (LaPresse) – "The professionalism of the armed forces, together with the ethics that guide them, is now being put to the test by the use of weapon systems supported by artificial intelligence. But it is always the soldier who remains the irreplaceable centre of gravity, even in modern warfare. Technology plays an unprecedented role on the battlefield, a growing role, but it cannot replace human judgement. Woe betide us if we act otherwise: tragedies would multiply. And we have already seen some examples of this." So said the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, who received the Chief of the General Staff of the Army, Carmine Masiello, at the Quirinale to mark the 165th anniversary of the Army’s foundation.
