Milan, 5 May (LaPresse) – “Cinema must continue on its path because it is our path. Today, the film community is expressing widespread concern about the future. In this regard, I have received – and read with genuine interest – a document from the film and audiovisual sector associations. I am confident – even after hearing Minister Giuli’s words – that we will be able to find a balance between the various needs. I agree that it would be inappropriate to treat the issue of the future of the audiovisual sector as a mere request for support. The crucial point is how to live up to our finest moments, how to continue to express quality and diversity in an increasingly difficult competitive environment and in the face of ever-faster change. We need dialogue and open discussion, without prejudice. “In the face of difficulties, agreement between the institutions and the sector’s stakeholders can act as a multiplier of resources and energy.” This was stated by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, during the ceremony at the Quirinale to present the nominees for the ‘David di Donatello’ Awards. “We have,” he added, “the strength and expertise to see new Italian productions come to life. To create further major co-productions. To attract foreign productions to our studios and locations. To experiment further, giving space to young directors and young writers. It would be paradoxical to make young people pay the price for this phase of transformation. There is a great desire to express oneself, there are many new ideas waiting to be realised, there is an epoch-making change that needs to be told, experienced and explored, there are dreams seeking their sequences and their words.”
