Rome, 19 May (LaPresse) – “We would have expected a different, proactive involvement, not a retrospective one, on a measure which, given its content and the issues addressed, did not warrant an urgent legislative process. For this reason, at the next meeting of the Conference of Regions, we will ask the Government to withdraw the enabling bill and to open a dialogue with the Regions in the spirit of loyal cooperation”. This was the crux of the statement by Massimo Fabi, Coordinator of the Health Commission of the Conference of Regions and Councillor for the Emilia-Romagna Region, speaking today at a hearing on the draft law on ‘Reorganisation and strengthening of healthcare’ before the Senate’s 10th Committee. Fabi highlighted all the critical issues with a measure that undermines the foundations of the National Health Service’s integrated structure and infringes upon the Regions’ concurrent legislative powers in healthcare, emphasising that an agreement – rather than a mere opinion – is the most appropriate means of assessing the text. “We will produce a written document in which the Conference of Regions will call for the withdrawal of the bill and clarify all the critical issues of this reform,” Fabi specified, concluding that “the Regions are willing to collaborate on the innovation of the healthcare system, provided that a collaborative approach is adopted”.
