Rome, 8 June (LaPresse) – "I see that Giorgia Meloni is still struggling with her maths. Whether it’s admitting this government’s woefully inadequate investment in public healthcare or the results of the local elections, the tactic is always the same: to distort the facts. As for us, we said we’d do the maths at the end. Out of 18 provincial capitals up for election, between the first round and run-offs, the centre-left has won 8 mayoral seats and the centre-right 6.‘ So said the secretary of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein. ’Fine victories in Agrigento, where they were in power, in Chieti and in Trani. Already in the first round, among municipalities with over 15,000 inhabitants, the centre-left won in 37 and the centre-right in 25, to which are added numerous municipalities won in this second round, such as the splendid victory in Molfetta. Beyond the propaganda of Meloni and Salvini, even in this round of elections the figures show a clear triumph for the progressive alliance, with the PD as the leading party in much of the country. “My best wishes for a successful term to all the newly elected mayors!”, he concludes.
