Rome, 3 May (LaPresse) – A flawless Jannik Sinner has won the Mutua Madrid Open, securing his fifth consecutive Masters 1000 title – a record no tennis player had ever achieved before. Against Germany’s Alexander Zverev, it was no contest. The South Tyrolean gave the German no chance, winning decisively 6-1, 6-2 in just 57 minutes of play. Paris in November 2025, Indian Wells, Miami and Monte Carlo in 2026, and now, of course, Madrid. No one had ever managed this since this category of tournaments began (1990) and no one – another extraordinary record – had ever managed to triumph in the first four of a single season. It is the first Italian triumph in the history of the tournament, and for Sinner it is the 28th title of his career and the ninth in a ‘1000’ event, where he is unbeaten in 28 matches (the fourth-longest streak of all time). Today he also beat Zverev for the ninth time in a row (10-4 overall), and new records are on the horizon. The next stop, in fact, is the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, the only ‘1000’ title missing from his trophy cabinet.
