Rome, 17 May (LaPresse) – A historic first triumph for an Italian men’s pair at the Italian Open. Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori (seventh seeds) claimed the doubles title against the seasoned pairing of Spain’s Marcel Granolles and Argentina’s Horacio Zeballos (second seeds in the doubles draw), who were champions at the BNL Italian Open in 2020 and 2024. The Italian pair won with a score of 7-6 (8) 6-7 (3) 10-3. In the five previous meetings between the two pairs, the Italians had won three times. In 1963, an Italian pair reached the final of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia: they were the legendary Nicola Pietrangeli and Orlando Sirola (defeated by Hewitt/Stolle).
