Rome, 1 May (LaPresse) – According to a Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll, the war launched by Donald Trump against Iran is as unpopular among Americans as the war in Iraq was during its most violent year in 2006 and the Vietnam War in the early 1970s. 61% of Americans believe that the use of military force against Iran was a mistake, and fewer than 2 in 10 Americans believe that US actions in Iran have been successful. Around 4 in 10 say they have not been successful, whilst another 4 in 10 believe it is ‘too early to tell’. Polls indicate a largely unpopular military action and growing economic repercussions. – However, support for the war among those who identify as Republicans remains high: 79% say it was the right decision. Independents who lean towards the Republican Party are almost evenly split, with 52% believing it was the right decision and 46% considering it a mistake. Despite scepticism about the war, Americans remain wary of Iran, and opinions are almost evenly split on whether or not to accept a peace deal at this time. 48% prefer to “reach a peace agreement with Iran, even if it proves less advantageous for the United States”, whilst 46% want to “push Iran towards a better agreement, even if that means resuming US military action against Iran”.
