Frankfurt (Germany), 4 May (LaPresse) – The driver of the car that ploughed into a group of people in the centre of Leipzig, killing at least two and injuring around twenty, is a 33-year-old German national. This was reported by local authorities at a press conference. The man arrested is a German national and resides in the Leipzig area, confirmed a Leipzig police spokesperson. The man is now in police custody. According to reports in Welt, the suspect is known to the police and was in a state of mental agitation at the time of his arrest. The incident does not therefore appear to be attributable to left-wing, right-wing or Islamist political extremism, but rather to an attack driven by homicidal madness. “This is the perpetrator of an indiscriminate attack,” said Saxony’s Interior Minister, Armin Schuster.
