Madrid (Spain), May 25 (LaPresse) – The Financial and Economic Crimes Unit of the National Police, during a search of the office of former Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, found a safe containing at least fifty pieces of jewelry with precious stones. The report comes from public broadcaster RTVE. Officers arrived at the former socialist leader’s office shortly after 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, and were let in by his secretary, Gertrudis Alcázar. Later, an employee identifying herself as Judith arrived. It was during this search that National Police officers reportedly found numerous necklaces with colored precious stones, rings, bracelets, watches, chains, earrings and other jewelry, RTVE reports. The former prime minister’s secretary stated that the safe “belongs to the home” of Zapatero and his wife, and that some of the jewelry found “were inheritances” from his wife and “travel gifts,” according to the Spanish public broadcaster.
