New Delhi (India), 3 June (LaPresse/AP) – At least 18 people have died in India following a fire that devastated a building in the Malviya Nagar district, in the southern part of the city. This was reported by the Indian news agency Press Trust of India, which added that several people were injured. The building housed a restaurant on the ground floor and flats on the upper floors. According to local media reports, some of the victims were foreign nationals who had come to India for medical treatment. Firefighters rescued 37 people from the building, said fire service official Abhilash Malik. The fire has been brought under control, but it is not yet clear how it started. Four bodies have been recovered from the scene. Footage from the scene shows firefighters battling the flames as thick smoke billowed from the building. Residents also joined the rescue efforts, helping to evacuate those trapped inside and carrying some of the injured to safety.
