Brussels, June 11 (LaPresse) – France and Germany are discussing a radical overhaul of the EU diplomatic service, in operation for 15 years, in an effort to improve the bloc’s response to geopolitical crises. This is according to the Financial Times, citing five senior officials. According to the British newspaper, Paris, Berlin and other capitals are considering several options, including removing powers from the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Kaja Kallas, and from her European External Action Service (EEAS), which has a budget of 1 billion euros per year, and returning them to the European Commission and member states. "It is clear that" the EEAS "does not work as it should in today's world. It is dysfunctional," a source said. "The problem is structural and therefore the structure must be rebuilt," they added.
