Rome, May 31 (LaPresse) – Between short holidays and day trips, more than one in two Italians (52%) will take advantage of the June 2 long weekend to celebrate Republic Day, making use of favorable weather forecasts and high temperatures, which are pushing people especially toward seaside, mountain, and countryside destinations. This emerges from an online survey by Coldiretti ahead of the holiday, which represents the first “taste” of the summer vacation season. Overall, an estimated 14.4 million citizens will take advantage of the long weekend to spend at least one night away, more than 90% of whom will stay in Italy, in addition to those who will limit themselves to a day trip. The June 2 holiday also confirms this year’s trend toward nearby tourism. Faced with rising energy costs, international tensions, and expensive flights, not to mention drone alerts and renewed conflict in Iran, Italians are choosing to remain within national borders or even within their own region. Even during the June 2 long weekend, food remains the main spending item for Italians traveling. According to Coldiretti, between lunches and dinners in restaurants, trattorias, pizzerias and farm stays, as well as street food and purchases of local products to take home, total spending will approach 3 billion euros.
