Vatican City (Vatican), 6 May (LaPresse) – "I think it is too early to say whether or not there will be a meeting. I believe the Holy Father is open to everything; he has never shied away from anyone. So if there were an offer or a request for direct dialogue with President Trump, I imagine he would have no difficulty in accepting it.” So said Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin regarding a possible telephone conversation between Pope Leo XIV and US President Donald Trump. Responding to journalists’ questions about relations between the Holy See and the US, Parolin added: “One cannot ignore the United States; I believe that despite some difficulties, they certainly remain a key partner for the Holy See, not least because they clearly play a role in almost every situation we face today. There is a reference to that role, and we take it into account.”
