Rome, 12 June (LaPresse) – The Supervisory Court has reserved its decision on the appeal lodged by Alfredo Cospito against the renewal of the 41 bis regime. Following today’s hearing in Rome, the judges announced that they would rule within about ten days on the request made by the defence team of the anarchist currently detained in Sassari prison. The appeal concerns the measure by which, at the end of April, the Ministry of Justice extended the strict prison regime imposed on Cospito – in force since 2022 – for a further two years. The 75-page ministerial decree cites the opinions in favour of the extension expressed by the National Anti-Mafia Directorate, the Turin District Anti-Mafia Directorate and the Central Directorate of Preventive Police at the Ministry of the Interior. According to investigators, the anarchist milieu linked to Cospito continues to represent a concrete risk to public order and national security. Hence the belief that a possible transition from the 41 bis regime to a less restrictive detention regime could allow for the resumption of contacts and communications with circles deemed potentially subversive.
