Milan, 1 May (LaPresse) – ‘May Day is a celebration of those who, every day, through commitment, sacrifice and dignity, keep Italy going’. This was written by the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, in an Instagram post. “And it is also the day when politics must face up to the facts. Since we have been in government, we have chosen to do so by taking concrete measures every year to improve the conditions of Italian workers. We have done this by reducing the tax wedge, through employment incentives, and by taking action on workplace safety. And we continue to do so by enhancing the quality of work, protecting the lowest wages and combating all forms of exploitation, including digital labour trafficking,‘ Meloni continued, adding that ’in recent years, the results have been achieved: Italy has over 1.2 million more people in employment, 550,000 fewer precarious workers and has reached the highest level of female employment in its history. These figures do not solve everything, but they point to a clear direction and a real change of pace."
