Rome, 12 May (LaPresse) – Lorenzo Musetti exits in the round of 16 at the Italian Open. The Carrara-born player, ranked 10th, still struggling with a hamstring injury in his right leg, was beaten in two sets by Norway’s Casper Ruud, the 25th seed, with a score of 6-3, 6-1 in one hour and 18 minutes. Thanks to his technical quality and reading of the match, as well as a first-serve percentage of nearly 80%, Ruud controlled the match from the very first games. At 3-0 in the second set, Musetti called for a medical time-out to secure the bandage on his thigh. The Italian’s hopes of reaching the quarter-finals in Rome for the second consecutive year have faded, whilst Ruud secured his first victory against a Top 10 player on clay since last year, when he defeated No. 4 Fritz, No. 10 Medvedev and No. 6 Draper on his way to the title at the Madrid Masters 1000.
