Milan, 26 May (LaPresse) – French government spokesperson Maud Bregeon has spoken of ‘seven deaths’, including ‘at least five drownings’, linked to the heatwave that has hit France in recent days. ‘What I can say today is that there appear to be seven deaths directly or indirectly linked to the heat,’ Bregeon told TF1, adding that ‘all this will need to be clarified once the heatwave we are currently experiencing has passed’. The government spokesperson also mentioned ‘deaths linked to extreme heat during sporting events’. The broadcaster Bfmtv also reports an eighth death, which occurred in the Bas-Rhin region.
