Milan, 4 June (LaPresse) – Israel’s Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, has condemned the US-brokered ceasefire in Lebanon, calling it a ‘serious mistake’. ‘Hezbollah has not left the area south of the Litani River and the Lebanese army has no way of forcing them out,’ the far-right minister writes on X, according to the Times of Israel. ‘The Lebanese state is a partner of Hezbollah. There are ministers representing Hezbollah in its government, and relatives of Hezbollah members serve in the Lebanese army,’ he continues. Ben Gvir predicts that “in practice, Hezbollah will only grow stronger, and instead of defeating it, Israel is accepting the fact of its existence”. “There are times when one must say ‘no’, even to the President of the United States, and if we do not do so, next time we will find ourselves facing Hezbollah, when it is stronger and more dangerous,” he warns. “Although I was unfortunately informed of these intentions during a closed-door meeting with the Prime Minister, I therefore request that a Cabinet debate and a vote be held on the decision to end the ceasefire,” he concludes.
