Rome, 10 June (LaPresse) – “We won’t have any jet fuel problems, at least for the summer.” This was stated by Unem president Gianni Murano during a press briefing ahead of the 2026 general meeting, referring to supply issues linked to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz following the war in Iran. ‘The price hierarchy has been turned on its head,’ explains Murano. ‘Before 2022, petrol, on a monthly average basis, was priced higher than diesel and jet fuel; after the crisis in Ukraine, prices initially aligned, but since 28 February, diesel and jet fuel have clearly surpassed those of petrol.’ As for Italy – Murano continues, referring to the war in Iran – “we import around 50% of our jet fuel requirements, of which only 20% is directly attributable to routes passing through the Strait of Hormuz. And in the first four months, there was a fall in imports of around 6% and a significant increase in domestic production (+10%), which in March and April enabled us to cover almost 70% of domestic consumption."
