Milan, June 14 (LaPresse) – Far-right French leader Jordan Bardella, considered a frontrunner for a possible run for the Élysée in 2027, distances himself from Donald Trump and rejects the idea of political support from him. In an interview with Politico, the president of the Rassemblement National described the US president’s behaviour as "not only erratic, but also extremely unstable and constantly changing". "It depends on the day. He has an attitude on Monday, on Tuesday, on Wednesday," Bardella added, stressing the difficulty of reading the White House’s political line. The French politician also made clear that he does not want external interference in national politics: "The support we are seeking is that of the French people. We do not need to open the door to any form of interference," he said, responding to the hypothesis of a Trump endorsement. This position marks a shift compared to the past: in 2024 Bardella had said that his "heart leaned toward Trump". Today, however, he warns that Europe must prepare for a future in which the United States may no longer guarantee the same military protection: Washington, he said, "no longer intends to come to Europe’s aid as it once did."
