Milan, 14 May (LaPresse) – Analysis of usage data from the main online platforms shows that, in December 2025, almost 44 million unique users went online, spending an average of 69 hours and 6 minutes each. This is reported by the Communications Regulatory Authority in its Communications Observatory covering the whole of 2025. At the top of the rankings are the websites and applications associated with the major international players (Alphabet/Google, META/Facebook/Instagram, Amazon, Microsoft, Bytedance/TikTok), which recorded a year-on-year decline only for Google and Microsoft but growth when considering December 2021, with the sole exception of Alphabet/Google, which also recorded a decline over a five-year period. Next come the platforms belonging to certain publishing groups and national operators (GEDI Publishing Group, Poste Italiane, Cairo Communication/Rcs Mediagroup, Fininvest/Mondadori, Italiaonline), with unique users on the rise for GEDI, Poste Italiane and Italiaonline compared to December 2024. With regard to audience trends for general news websites and apps, last December saw 37,912,000 unique users, a decline of 1.9% (-691,000 visitors), as well as a decrease in average time spent (-7 minutes approximately) compared to December 2024. Specifically, with approximately 29.885 million unique users, ‘La Repubblica’ was the most visited website (and its associated apps) (+0.4% compared to traffic in December 2024), followed by ‘Corriere della Sera’ (24.730 million users, -9.8%) and ‘TGCOM24’ (18.697 million users, +7.8%).
